Amazon -- what can I say. I am a regular customer. With free shipping over $25 and no local tax, they are often the best price, even compared with other online retailers. They've revolutionized book sales by being able to offer an insanely deep catalog, including self-published and stocked titles right next to mainstream bestsellers. They're one of the best examples of this theoretical power-leveling advantage often talked about in the early days of the internet. Sure they're not perfect. But they do a good job. And as they try to expand into every market, they become more and more of a one-stop shop. You can put together a free-shipping package with that book you want, nail clippers, a pair of jeans, a CD, an iPod and an yoga mat.
I hesitate to recommend a hosting company because they can change and I don't want to be responsible for bad advice, or advice that goes bad. But 1and1 is my host and they've been highly professional and reliable. There are a lot of really bad discount hosts out there, so that's strong praise. If I have the history right, 1and1 started as the internet division of Deutsche Telecom (whose mobile division in America is T-Moblie) and evolved into the largest hosting operation in the world. So they probably aren't going anywhere anytime soon. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a host.
Try Netflix for Free! Netflix is quietly replacing the local chain video store. You pay a flat monthly fee and that entitles you to have 3 DVDs out at any one time. There is no time limit per DVD. It just counts as one of the three as long as you have it. When you return a DVD you can get another one. There's no limit to how many you can rent in a month except the 1-3 days (free) shipping each way. The theory about what makes any online retail business successful over its local competition is that it is ont enough just to be more convenient, it must also alleviate things that are stressful or unpleasant about local competition. In this case, that's easy: going to the video store and finding nothing you want, having to make a decision right there on the spur of the moment, feeling pressure after renting something to watch it that night even if your plans change or you find you're not in the mood, and having to get it returned in time or else pay a late fee. All of those go away with Netflix. The only downside is the lack of spontaneity. A price, but a small one against all the benefits. The most remarkable thing to me about Netflix's spreading popularity is how many of my friends are using it right here in Manhattan where there's a rental store on every corner. That's how much people don't like using video stores. While quirky local stores with big catalogs of independent videos, like Kim's in my neighborhood, still serve a role, the Blockbusters of the world won't be missed by anyone. Of course, Blockbuster has joined this game and Amazon is coming, but Netflix does it far better than them. It has a 30,000 title catalog and enough of each that it's rarely out of stock of what you want. (This is in stark contrast with Blockbuster online, which I tried for a month for free, and which was usually out of stock of anything popular.)
Free Revival Soy Variety Kit - Click HereI'm not going to give you a lecture about soy. You either want it or not. If you do, Revival makes tasty sports bars and soy shakes that pack six times the usual amount of soy isotopes and protein into each serving. You can read all about the health benefits and technology on their site. Anyone can benefit, but the Revival folks have a lot to say about the special benefits for women going through menopause. I have a daily serving of either the bar or shake, unless I am eating a pound of tofu that day... which does occasionally happen. They also have soy chips and fake coffee made with soybeans. Check them out.
I know some friends who have food issues avoid sports bars, but for me a bar is often the difference between maintaining "zone" balance or running on empty. For me, taking care of myself means having a bar in my bag. Mother Nature also has a range of natural products including pet care, aromatherapy, body & bath, and vitamins, and a rather deep library of online information about various diets and health concerns. It's an altogether nice and helpul place to go for all this stuff. And if you order $49 or more it's free shipping.
